Callan Marchetti writes and records as Faodail from a home studio in Glasgow. He came to production the long way round, first as a drummer, and it still shows in how he works: patiently, by feel, one layer at a time. A track usually begins as a pad or a stretch of atmosphere. Synth lines get bounced to cassette on an old Tascam four-track and cut into loops, warm and slightly unstable, and somewhere in there will be a field recording, or the studio's piano, long drifted out of tune. The north of Scotland is never far from any of it. He has spoken about the strange comfort of landscapes that make you feel small, and you can hear it in the music's stillness.

What began as a run of self-released singles travelled further than most: airplay on BBC Radio 6, support from MrSuicideSheep, a No.1 on Hype Machine. The EPs Untethered (2019) and Madainn (2021) followed, the second named for the Gaelic word for morning, and with them a home on some of electronic music's best loved labels: Anjunachill, Enhanced, Monstercat Silk, Colorize. There have been remixes for Klur, Rohne and Edapollo, scores for film and podcast work, and collaborations with noo and PALLADIAN. Millions of streams later, the aim hasn't changed much: to leave enough space in the music for the listener to find their own way through it.
